Hilton Head beach trip

This past Friday through Monday we went to Hilton head South Carolina with Grandmere and Papa Bill. When we got there that afternoon we took you to the park and then we went and looked at the beach. You were excited to be near the water. We took you on a little bike ride through the trails and you enjoyed it. That night for dinner we went to a really neat restaurant right on the beach and daddy take you down to play in the sand to keep you occupied. There was a guy playing his guitar and singing so you had fun dancing around to the music.
The next day we took you on a bike ride down to one end of the island where they were having a fall festival. We got there too early but you got to play on the playground and walk down the dock. You had a few little temper tantrum's but overall you had fun. Daddy showed you some talking parrots and you were saying hi to them and kept saying parrot after we left.
We went back and you took a nap for a few hours and then that afternoon we went to the beach. While you were napping dad and I went over to a place called Harbor town and had lunch.
We took you to the beach later that afternoon and you had fun playing in the water.
On Sunday we spent the morning going to have breakfast and then we took you to the beach for several hours. You were not too excited to be at the breakfast place because daddy had taken you to a cool playground right before and you didn't want to leave. I ended up taking you back after a few minutes because the dogs with us were getting on my nerves and I just needed a break from humans besides you. :)
Right when we got back we headed to the beach and it was very nice and relaxing. Daddy set up a little tent for you to get in when you were going to nap that day but that didn't happen. It was funny because daddy tried to get you to lay down to take a nap and you pitched a fit and then I finally said let me sit in the chair with you and you fell asleep after 10 minutes. Right then Bill showed up and yelled boo which did not wake you. I told daddy to grab you to put you in the tent but when he picked you up your hand was caught in the chair and it cut your finger and you woke up screaming. We count you down and I tried to get you to lay down for a nap but it just wasn't going to happen so we ended up just playing on the beach some more. That evening daddy and I went to a nice dinner and we stayed at the house with Grandmere and Bill. Dad and I really enjoyed having an evening to ourselves and the place we ate at was beautiful as it was on the water and had a really pretty lights. We got some really good seafood and Keylime pie and peanut butter pie. Yummy.
We had to be out of the house on Monday by 10 AM. That morning you slept in so we all packed while you were sleeping. You slept for most of the way home which took about four hours.

One thing that was cute about the beach is you always seem to find a kid or two to play with and it's so much fun seeing you interact and be so friendly. I told daddy the next time we go to the beach we need to have some friends to go with with kids so you can have even more fun.
Dad was a big help on this trip because he played with you a lot and took really good care of you!

Yogurt and scratch

This photo shows that you really love yogurt plus it also shows a big scratch you got from school when you try to take a toy from a little girl with long fingernails. I think you look beautiful in this photo even with yogurt on your face

You went potty!!!

You are 23 months old and went to the potty on your own for the first time today.  You cannot imagine how excited we were.  We have a tiny little kids potty that is in the guest bedroom that has Elmo on it. It even makes the Flushing sound when you pull the handle. We have a few books that we have been reading you about going potty and the other night you even asked to read the potty book. Both dad and I have been going potty in front of you so you know what it means. This morning you had just your diaper and top on and we passed through the bathroom and you kept saying you wanted to take your diaper off. I was trying to get you to come in your bedroom to put on your clothes but you kept pulling at your diaper. I took it off of you and you went and sat on your potty and peed.

Axyl

Axyl is a rescue dog that I adopted from Rockdale County Animal Control on April 1st.
I had gone to the shelter to visit a dog that was taken up there that was found at our son's daycare.
I saw "Lou" (his kennel name) there and he looked so sad.  He was curled up near the front of the kennel so you could touch him through the cage, but he looked SO SAD.  I felt a connection to him as he reminded me of my rescue Jackson when I adopted him 6 years ago.  I thought about Lou for days and then saw that he was going to be euthanized on this one particular day.  I called our daycare administrator who is involved with rescue and the shelter in town and told her, "I am going to go get that dog".  She said that she would help me find him a home.  She said that she loved the fact that I didn't have a plan, but I was willing to take a chance for this dog.  Well, it's September 1st, and we still have this guy.  He had heartworms that had to be treated which is a 3 month process of treatment and healing.  He actually just went to a new home for a week, but he didn't get along with their young lab that wasn't fixed.  That lab was very hyper and territorial of their yard.  Axyl gets along with our dogs fine, but chases the cats.  Axyl is very playful and likes to run around the yard in circles but stays close by so he can see me and be near me.  He is excellent on a leash!  His body is solid muscle and beautiful.

He came into my life when I was struggling with infertility.  I would take Axyl on our nightly walks which gave me a chance to clear my mind.  I got to focus on him and work with him to trust me, and me learn to trust him.  It's always challenging when you meet a new dog because you don't know their true disposition.  I imagine they feel the same about this new adult that has just taken them home!

On our first walk together, he just sat in the driveway afraid to walk with me.  Within the next few days, he was walking like a pro.  He is so loving and loves to be pet.  When I sit on the floor, now he crawls into my lap and puts his head in my legs so I can rub his ears.  He will roll over in my lap so I can rub his belly.

He is still timid about car rides.  He won't jump into the car when you open the door.  I have to pick him up and put him in the back seat.  He just lays there and is perfectly content.

I am so happy to have found this sweet boy!  In July, we found out we were pregnant.  I thank Axyl all the time for giving me an opportunity to focus on him and not myself.  I am so appreciative that he gave me the chance to earn his trust and become good friends.  Of all my rescue dogs, Axyl is by far my favorite.  I can't wait for him to meet his future owner and forever change their life!

xoxo,

Kelly

We are having another boy!
